This week was crazy so I'm not doing a full recap but of course I have to make sure I post about Mondo's Style on episode 9.
Our Mondo went back to his favorite summer tunic, and I appreciated it more this episode, why you ask? Well, he brought out the yellow buttons on the shirt by wearing it with these super bright yellow galoshes (I think that's what they are) that did the trick. Who knows if it was raining in NYC that day, but getting to know Mondos style I have noticed his accessories are not so much for functionality but more for personality!
I did a bit of research on the "munic" (the name I gave to the man tunic) and they were pretty big in the sixties and seventies when there was a lot of free loving. Mondo's down with the groovyness of those decades... You can find some munics online, preferably under indian style as there's really not much for man, for ladies there's tons of these you can find anywhere!
From the pic below we can see that Mondo can also be casually cool, nothing like a white-T and a cap to just chill out. Don't forget, it's not just a white-T with Mondo, he makes sure it has that specific Mondo touch with the graphics. Also as always, he's accessorized very well with dog tags http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_tag_(military on his neck and black rimmed glasses.
Mondo seems a bit sad in this pic...
I would also like to point out the head gear Mondo was wearing at some point, I realized he seems to like to use denim accessories a lot, I think he likes that 80's throwback feel light denim hats and vest may project. As I mentioned before, his style is not dictated by the now, his pretty much timeless, if you will... Who else could pull a denim chu chu train hat that well!
FINALLY, Mondo saved the best for the end of the episode. Let's take a look:
I think Mondo was going for that 50's man style, that's actually really in right now, with the more fitted pants. Of course he does it with more flair, you know the fold of the pants, the funky socks, usual Mondo, he's into the whole theatrics of fashion.
German designer Tomas Maier presented a collection with a distinctly 1950s vibe at Bottega Veneta.
Milan men’s fashion week autumn/winter 2010/11
He also went back to his fave, denim for the vest. My favorites were the tie/hat combination, seemed like a herringbone pattern. I have a feeling Mondo probably made the tie, I never seen anything like it, and then threw in the hat when he saw it matched really well. I found a pic with some knitted ties that are for the less flashy but just as fun...
I never watched the original series, so I was not familiar with the premise of the show. I wanted to watch it because it's based in Hawaii. I figured, that would be a great place to live, with all the beaches; hence I had to watch! Sorry if that doesn't make much sense but I really don't know how my brain functions. I think it was that ad campaign, I tell you, it was just so refreshing and I mean that literally. Take a look...
I saved it on my DVR and figured it was probably one of those light crime shows that just pretty much are easy on the eyes but lacking on the substance, you know, in line with CSI: Miami...BOY WAS I WRONG! and I am soo glad I was, I mean this show kicks ass! Yes there were some cheese moments at the start when the conversation with the Governor took p (I think that's what she was) but the rest of the show had me at the edge of my seat...or bed.
Yes, I know the hot girl it's also a bit of stretch, but come one it's TV, we all need some eye candy...and that she was!
The good thing was that there was eye candy for everyone, I mean that Alex O'Laughlin was pretty hot!
and Daniel Dae Kim, never been really into the Asian guys, but he is fine!
I was really happy to Scott Caan in a juicy role, you know the divorced father, troubled cop, etc. It's so much better than those run of the mill bad guys I've seen him in.
There wasn't really any of that fluff, it was fast, gritty and action packed and it had a sense of humor. I was hooked. It felt like I was watching a one hour action movie with brains. So I'm a fan and recommend that you watch if you like smart action shows. This probably means I will not wait a whole week to watch it... Oh, and I also got to see some beatiful beaches on some of the show. I hope it stays the same.
I'm so excited to have Dancing With the Stars again! I have so much fun watching people try and the dancing, it's just pure guilty pleasure. Let's start with the obvious, Brooke's dress looked like it was painted on her, she has a great figure and I see the show will be featuring it this season, this woman looks good in anything though...
AUDRINA AND TONY
Oh my God, Audrina Partridge...I'm still asking myself why is this girl here but moving on. I agree with my favorite blog www.dlisted.com, she does have ceiling eyes! take a look at the pic below and judge for yourself. At least poor Tony has a dance partner who's seems to be excited and willing to work hard, energetic and she's super cute you can't deny that. She probably felt very comfortable since dancers already use a ton of tanning just like she does...Not bad for the first time, she was doing the moves well, but was missing the flavor, needed more hip action in my opinion, but you she's young, beautiful, showing some curves, solid start but needs to really get into it. Bruno agrees with me!

She does seem to be looking up...
KURT AND ANNA
If your read my last DWTS post you know I was not familiar with this guy. Now I am! pretty handsome, cute wife, they seem to be building their own football team with all those kids! I mean 7, are they competing with the Duggars ! I hope Kurt knows what's in for him, working with Anna seems tough, but at least she's not a B-I-T-C-H like Cheryl sometimes comes across when dealing with her stars. I like this guy seems down to earth, and was moving really good for his first time, he had rhythm, good timing. I believe he can go far in this competition, listen to me, the professional (Well I am a professional wathcher of this competition)...I thought it was soo cute when he went to kiss his wife after the dance, nice to know love still exist after a gazillion kids. Len hated it, but he can be hard on people sometimes, except if they're blond and leggy, then he will probably like that couple.
The Duggars, 19 kids and counting
Also just a note, Anna's dresses are my favorite, you could totally wear that out, not just for dancing you know.

KYLE AND LACEY
Next was Disney star Kyle Massey, they described him as a rapper, I never heard him rap...But first things first, can we talk about Lacey's blond hair, no girl! She looks beautiful and unique as a brunette, she looks generic and processed as a blond. Hopefully she will change it soon. I love her though, she's seems to be so much fun, and she comes from So You Think You Can Dance which it's my other favorite! Her Chin, Chin Dance with Danny was, to me, the best ever on the show! It's below just in case you want to see it, it's not the best video but you will get an idea. Back to Kyle, this kid could move! I loved it, his personality, his dancing, I think he was tying to do some Michael Jackson too. Great job, he was my favorite of the night! Just an aside, my husband thinks Kyle's voice sounds like Ben Vereen...I'm going to have to agree.

RICK AND CHERYL
This guy was good too! I mean he was suave and and definitely got swagger, Carry Ann I feel you girl. I hope he can do just as well in the fast dances. Sometimes there's some guys that are great at slow at slow dancing, cause you know, they have experience with that sort of thing, if you know what I mean, specially this guy, you know he's had girls drop their panties for him after a slow dance..sorry if that was too graphic...
How cute was his little girlfriend in the audience, standing by her man, she was like: show them your moves baby! Every time I see her I think of "Bring it On". I love that movie, I'm sure she's done more, but that's all I can remember. They seem like such a random couple, you don't really see them matching, but it works for them.
I know I said that Cheryl can be a B*** before, but don't get me wrong, the woman knows what she's doing and gets results. I think that's the reason she almost always gets the sports guys, you know she can be tough on them like a coach and they listen. Sometimes you need that extra push to do great you know, if my trainer was nicer maybe I would still be 10 pounds heavier...just saying.

BRANDY and MAKSIM
Yes Brandi, I agree with you, he is freaking hot! Her dance was just okay for me, but she seems to be really into it, the judges like it and then they had to go show and show Ray J in the audience and all I could think was the sex tape with Kim K (Not that I've seen it...) He's just so nassssty...lol
SCORE: 23 out of 30
BRISTOL AND MARK
Oh my god she sounds just like her mom when she speaks! with the accent. I'm sorry but she was REALLY BAD, I mean it was very easy for me to spot her ALL her mistakes and it makes me think why? why? why would get on this show. On the upside, I think she looked really pretty and the whole business outfit was clever and cute. Also the judges went so easy on her. I'm done with her, she can go next week.

FLORENCE AND CORKY
Florence Henderson: she curses! Like a trucker! When I started watching I was like, ok she seems to be slow and uncomfortable, not sure how long she will last, then I heard she's 76 years old! and she started looking better and better. She's really likable and there's still all those Brady Bunch fans. When she was dancing though, her eyes were possessed, and not just as part of the dance, you could almost see her concentrating soooo hard. I thought it was hilarious during the judging they called it "A mama Brady smack down". By the way I love Corky, you know this man looks great, and he knows how to handle himself some cougars!
SCORE: 18 out of 30
MICHAEL AND CHELSEA
What else can I say, please let him be the first eliminated! Robotic with no rhythm, I guess the upside is that he can only get better right...or maybe not, yikes! I feel Chelsea always gets stuck with robots, poor thing, shout out to SYTYCD again!

THE SITUATION AND KARINA
Greasy Hug
This guy seems too sleazy, when she said hi to him at the airport he was so oily and shiny. I thought she should go home and take a shower, but it's all in perception you know. I don't watch JerseyShore so he could be a great guy, riiight... Back to the Situation, he was bad, yes I know he only had 5 days of rehearsal but I have a feeling he's not going to get that much better, he has only 7 days until next week, what's going to be his excuse then....How many clubs has he been in, he should have picked up a few moves.
SCORE: 15 out of 30
Let me talk for Karina for a moment, is it just me or do her lips seem plumper, it could just be my imagination, what do you think? I really hope she doesn't ruin her face, she's so sexy, doesn't need any more help.
Does Karina have more juicy lips?
JENNIFER AND DEREK
They did great, she has some ballroom experience, she probably had to work really hard for Dirty Dancing. The moment where she remember Patrick Swayze during the rehearsal was really touching. It's so crazy for me and I'm just a fan that he's not around, I cannot even imagine what it was like for her, I mean she worked and knew the man. Sad...
SCORE: 24 out of 30
MARGARET AND LOUIE
I was hoping for so much, she's funny she's edgy, and this was just cheesy. I understand why they added humor, but it just didn't work here. When they first started dancing I asked myself what the cape was for and then I was sorry I asked. The music and tone of the dance was too serious to play jokes. I hope she redeems herself the rest of the season. I'm rooting for you girl! and I really like Louie, hope he stays for a while.

THE HOFF AND KYM
Oh My God! This was hilarious! It was so bad, it was good! I think he was really funny and he had charisma, something that Michael Bolton was lacking. I know this is a dance show, but come on, he was like an accident you can't stop watching. He was like a German Elvis, gyrating left and right. When it came to the steps, not so great. I want more of the Hoff, I can't believe I just said that...
SCORE: 15 out of 30
Overall, good start to the show, nothing can beat the crazyness of last season, but this was a good start, can't wait to see what happens each week. Just a note what was up with Jamie Lee Curtis, looking like Tom Bergeron's shadow? Random...maybe she's campaigning to be on next season! I would love that!
So I start this review deeply saddened by the fact that one of my favorites this season was eliminated...so, life continues...
This was one of my least favorite episodes, I love Jackie O. and I do believe she has inspired many, but I don't know, it feels for some reason there was something missing here that has nothing to do with her per se. Maybe it was the fact I felt the challenge was not THAT challenging. I might be wrong because some people failed miserably at simplicity (Andy, I'm talking to you). Even after the outerwear twist was added, I was not impressed.
Right at the start we get to see Gretchen's best milkmaid's impression, she reminded me of Heidi's Got Milk? add or maybe a German beer girl...
Gretchen's milkmaid look.
I came to the conclusion that Valerie has lost her mojo, what other way to explain how great she started and the last few episodes have not been great ending with her at the bottom 2! Insane, I think she's so talented, if she doesn't do change moving forward I'm a afraid her demise in the competition will be soon. From the moment the show started I thought she was top 3, now, not so much...
Also I'm not sure why I never noticed or the show just edited it that way, but come on woman, believe in yourself! Her indecisiveness was driving me nuts...
Moving on to this weeks designs:
Andy's design
I guess I am starting with the worst of the night, what was this about? This was not only not inspired by Jackie O. at all, it was also horrible. I really like most of his stuff but he should have been in the bottom 2 this week.
April's dress
First it's black, second it has weird fluffy sleeves that are different in a bad way. I'm sorry, I don't like this at all. I really wish that April would branch out, she's cool but it's not reflecting on most of her designs. I'm also having a hard time believing this was inspired by Jackie O.
Christopher's design
I actually liked Christopher's design except for that strange extra fabric on her back. It was fine, I wish he would have pushed the envelope a bit more. Also, why, why would he choose a fabric he has never worked with before, I feel that's a recipe for disaster. It happens season after season and designers continue to do it. He was lucky his dress was nice or that could have gone really bad. When Tim Gunn did his assessment of this outfit, he said the word "anemic", leave it to Tim to find the perfect word to describe an unfinished product. When it came to the challenge, I think it met the requirements, it was sleek, classy, something someone like a modern Jackie O. could wear.
Gretchen's look
and her inspiration...
Let's move on to Gretchen's design or what my husband would call the "Jedi Knight" cape...enough said about it... Meanwhile, she seems to think she's better than everyone else, she mentioned that Mondo was missing the mark, and made sure to say that Ivy it's more a tailor than a designer. Guess it was Gretchen who missed the mark, Mondo won the challenge and Ivy actually did well...for a change. How about when she claimed the fabric Michael C. had in front of him, was touching, she was like 5 miles away, and was like "I'm using that", she's something else. I think she's a good designer but she may need a some humble soup on her plate.
Ivy's design
Finally, Ivy shows us why she made it to Project Runway. The shirt and pants were very nice, I don't know about that jacket, it was a bit small and I ask myself if she really needed it. She seemed to be concentrating a lot and work extra hard to pull this one off. The design had all these panels that I was not really able to see from my living room, but again the shirt was very nice. She HAD to do well in this challenge, everything she makes it's super simple. The styling made it look even nicer. Maybe I was too harsh on Ivy before, I just don't like mean people, which she is.
Michael C
Michael C's dress, the jacket was very nice but the dress was not something I thought really stayed with what the challenge. I thought that was a very sexy cocktail dress, I mean, I could almost see a side boob when the model took off the jacket. I have a feeling Michael C's 7 lives in Project Runway are running out. I was utterly shocked that Michael D. was sent home before his namesake.
Michael D.
Now on to Michael D's design. I actually really loved his jacket, it was reminiscent of the classic Chanel tweed jacket which it's timeless, unfortunately he was fixated on this skirt and would not let go of it! to top it off once the model took off the jacket the fit of the shirt seemed to really blow off the judges gasket. I thought it was OK. It was not the most horrible thing on the runway but what do I know. Michael D. seemed fine with his departure, I have a feeling he was not working his 100% on this challenge, who knows, these designers are put through the ringer day in and day out, they are exhausted and I think Michael lost his vision. Like Tim said, the skirt was his WATERLOO: a decisive defeat or failure. Did Tim grow up in a library, I mean I have to find the meaning to half the stuff he says on this show.
Mondo's design
What can I say about Mondo's design, it was great, stayed true to the challenge and to his style. It was inspired by Jackie O. not just a copy cat. I loved it, he deserved a win finally! Look below to see why he almost outshined his model...
Valerie's design
Finally Valerie's design. Like I mentioned before, I do think that she's lost her mojo and needs to get it back! I have faith that she will, but this was kind of sad and the judges hated it. What else can i say, it was kind of weird that she had the vest on top of the jacket. Oh, also, I really love her sketches, they are so cool, just wish the outfit would have been just like it.
WHAT MONDO WORE!
Thanks to BPR for suggesting I featured Mondo and what better time to start than this week! I mean he almost stole his model's thunder! What I love about Mondo's style is the fact that he has an outfit inspiration and commits to it 100% percent..
So Mondo started with what I thought was an homage to season 7 winner Seth Aaron ...and in his own way getting that winner energy, but then I took a closer look and it was actually his homage to Mickey... I should have know better...
Then he moves on to what I call the denim Kangol look which reminded me of Boyz to Men or his pink version of LL Cool J:
At some point during the show he seemed to still be trying to work out his resort look, since he didn't do so well on it...somehow I think he would still fail at it, it's more golden girls thank resort...take a look for yourself:
But my favorite look of the night was his last outfit which was inspired but the Cotton Club. He really went all out for this one...Heidi loved it so much she wanted to hear this outfit instead of his design. I have a feeling Mondo knew he was going to win (his outfit was the best) and he chose to look extra special.
Lastly I would like to say farewell to Michael Drummond, you and your sleeveless shirts will be missed!
