Project Runway - What's Mine Is Yours- Sept. 9, 2010

So after missing the show last week due to my DVR dying thanks to fried cables, I am back to business! I have Verizon Fios now, and not only does it carry Lifetime on demand, I also seems it's on HD, yey! I'm happy about seeing that much more of the details on the designs.

Of course everyone is bitter that Michael Costello won 2 challenges, meanwhile whether not he's the best designer, he's really working well under pressure, using his skill set to the best of his abilities, and besides it's what the judges have liked, there’s nothing they can do about that! The other designers need to stop complaining and hating on him and just do your thing! We all know from past seasons, if someone is lacking talent, chances are they will be gone eventually. They are wasting all their energy on this! By the way, was Heidi wearing silk pajamas at the start of the show? You tell me…
Heidi came straight from bed!
The challenge this episode was resort wear with a twist, they worked with a partner who had to actually make their design. I really don't go away too often, so the extend of my knowledge about resort wear it's visiting Banana Republic during the month of February and seeing lots of khaki stuff with sailor shirts and some reds here and there, the resort wear I have seen reminds me of 4th of July colors.  Going back to the show, let's thank Mondo for giving me a mental picture of him walking around in his underwear...not. Although he was wearing shorts during this episode so I don’t think that was too far from the undies image.

Sexy Mondo
The inspiration seemed to be soo much fun, going on the yacht, I'm sure the mimosas made it even better. Right away April says she's going to design something black...NOT surprised at all! I actually really like her personality, she seems like a very nice girl, but good lord, must every single thing she does be black? With studs? Well there was that time she created the "diaper" so maybe black its better after all!

Mimosas!  I feel like going to brunch now...

So Michael D. who I also like... is it just me or it's the tone of his voice a little high sometimes, it drives me nuts, no major deal though, he seems really talented and just a peaceful cool vibe kind person you know.  After seeing how he handled himself and Ivy in this episode I have respect for him.  I wish he would have believed in himself more in this challenge.

Ivy trying to Kill Michael D. with her eyes!
I'm also not surprised that Ivy gravitated towards light colors; everything she has made from the start of the competition has been such a snooze! And can we talk about the fact that she's soooo mean! Gosh what a horrible way to carry on, I don't care if you’re in a competition, I understand you don't have to help anyone and I accept that, but to be horribly mean just for the hell of it, I hate that! I mean she's not even that good! She has not wowed me or the judges at all!! At least Gretchen it's talented, but Ivy sucks!! She’s mean and her stuff it's boring. She also likes to prey on the weak! Can you tell I feel a bit strong about this? Ivy looking over Michael D when he was sewing her design....talk about breathing fire!!! His confidence was shot thanks to her. How about when she told the model not to worry about her hair, such attitude! I have not doubt (and hope) that she’s eliminated soon.

Oh lord, team challenge! They are my least favorite but I know it's a necessary evil in this show and it gives them some experience on working with other people. As long they don't have 8 out of 10 episodes a season I’m ok, 2 or 3 group challenges per season, it’s sufficient.

Mondo has become one of my favorites; I think he's really talented; I have loved ALL his designs. You know he kept it real with Michael C. He told him straight to his face how he felt about him being his partner in this challenge. I appreciated that part, the part where he bitched and moaned to the others, not so much..I just feel that he needed to channel that energy to assisting Michael C. since he was so worried, just saying...and as I kept watching it seems that he did just that! How much do I actually love him now, after he apologized to Michael C. and realized he just needed to give him a little bit of guidance. Glad they worked it out! They were hugging by the end of the show.  I also can't help but picture Mondo as a cartoon character or comic strip, I think it's his hair...It's Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius, so it's Mondo, designer genious!

Michael Kors did the critiques on this episode and that was awesome for the designers, not only because it was related to the challenge but also because he told them what the judges want to see on the runway. All they had to do was listen to the man in black and really take in what he says, his visit was super helpful. On another note, I could only imagine if you want to be a successful designer how great would it be to be able to pick Michael Kors head, I mean he represents fashion Americana. I thought that was super cool.
Michael Kors advising the designers

Valerie is my other favorite, I think she has great ideas and really pulls them through for the runway, they need to give her props, they have not given her a win yet! That was a tender moment she shared with her mom, it's always so great if you are in trouble or need advice to pick up the phone and call mom. These moments are great and relatable; this is when I start rooting for them, when you see the pressure getting to them. I think: you can do it girl!

On to the runway, guest judging was Veronica Mars, I mean Kristen Bell, hmmm, how do I say this without sounding too critical? I know I am not the fashion police but, I look at magazines, I read blogs, what I’m trying to say is; I don't really see how she's that qualified to judge on this show. I don't really think she’s' known for her fashion forward sense of style... I mean it's not like she's a Jessica Alba, or a Leighton Meister, or Olivia Palermo, etc… that's what I mean, they take risks and are known for their daring sense of style.  Also her fringed look was not my favorite.

But I digress; here goes what I think about the designs:

Andy's design was my favorite, you could see that in Vogue magazine as you are flipping through the first 50 pages of advertisements, the fabric was a bit wrinkled, I'm not sure if it was meant to be that way.  You can wear it to the beach and then go to eat dinner right by the water wearing the same thing. Loves it!

Next, April's design, the judges liked it so much it was the winner, I think she did really well for the challenge and I'm glad she had her moment but it wasn't my favorite and for some reason I didn't think of resort when I saw it, but then again what do I know...

Below it's Casanova's Design, Which I thought wasn't bad, the only problem was that it was not resort.  He ended up being the looser and leaving.  I'm going to miss Casanova, he was a character, but loveable.  Unfortunately in almost all the challenges he went the opposite direction...so long Casanova!

Christopher's design did not have any major faults, but there was nothing impressive about it either.  It reminded me of something I could get in JC Penney, not that there's anything wrong with that but I don't think the judges were looking for Penney chick...

Next, Gretchen and her 2 favorite colors together, beige and maroon!  the same exact colors she used in the loosing design a couple of weeks ago.  I think she's trying to prove a point.  I thought it was a nice idea, for some reason I saw a pouch on the model, but that can be the construction.  It was just ok.

Oh My God, Ivy kept blaming Michael D. for her horrible design, she called it when she said statue of liberty!  Poor Michael D. she basically said all he knows how to make it's tents, barely.  I was really glad the judges saw through her BS.  It was horrendous, but see for yourself:

The next design was Michael C's.  What can I say, it's not bad, a little bit Saturday Night Fever meets Kimora Lee Simmons.

Next it's Michal D's.  This was actually my second favorite design, unlike April's dress, although this is black it's very beachy, and islandy you know.  the linen fabric, the neckline, the beading, the cord around the waist, it was beautiful and fun. He has really surprised me this season, I like his work after I thought I wasnt going to, you know he's into knits and I figured he was going to do sweater dresses all season...

Mondo did not pull through in this episode as we can see per the picture below, you know everyone has a bad day and in this case it was a bad episode. But I love him still and I know this will be behind him next week.

Valerie's it's the last design and I'm sorry it was not my favorite, it could be the fact that Andy was the one who made it.  Something was off, the crotch and pleating were sketchy.  Something/s felt wrong about it.

Overall good episode, I wish they would have sent Ivy home, I'm going to have to put up with her again, but hopefully not for long.  In a way I was glad, poor Michael D. would have felt so guilty for her departure and she would have used that as an excuse for her exit.  No, friends, I want her to go on her own horrible design accord.

It's a bit strange to have 90 minute episodes, and I think the time it's taken by showing the contestants at home, their interactions seem awkward sometimes.  Can't wait for next week!!

Nikita -First Episode...Ever

dress pic!
I was really looking forward to giving this show a try, I mean everywhere I turned there she was, the woman with the red dress, talk about bombarding you with advertisements, so basically they ingrained it in my brain I had to watch, that and the fact that the fall season it's only gearing up, which means, there's still time to give these shows I would not normally a try.

Michael (who's portrayed by Shane West), works for the government, and I guess he heads the operations, he looks to me like he's 12 years old, I mean come on...I can see that he's trying to look really menacing but it just doesn’t work. Well, that's Hollywood casting for ya...
I'm not really scared by this...

Nikita walks out, and of course undeniably, she's very attractive, but she's so tiny, I’m having a hard time believing she's the one who's going to kick everyone's ass, but guess what? she proved me wrong. I really liked the action scenes, there were very entertaining and believable, also the Nikita character is really likeable, it kind of makes you want to go out there and fight the man! Too bad I can't say the same for those scenes where all the special ops people just happen to appear out of nowhere, it seemed a bit forced when it came to that part.  I mean, there were about 10 agents at a train station, yeah right, not sure if I can believe that in this day and age, then again I have to let the show make me believe and I'm still working on that.

My favorite part was the twist ending when I realize that Alex is actually allies with Nikita, she's her mole! That part was very cool. Overall, I was intrigued by the show; I would like to see more to make sure of how I truly feel about the series. I think there's some parts that can get better but that may happen if the show gets and opportunity to mature. This show has the potential of being another popular female series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Veronica Mars.  Check out a cool fighting scene below.

America's Next Top Model - Cycle 15, 09-08-10

Of course the episode started with Tyra, speaking about what else: Tyra, and how she became a supermodel...yada, yada, yada, but I think everyone knows Tyra, loves to talk about herself.... I did enjoy seeing her pictures from childhood, she was kinda of cute, who would have thought she would turn into a self-centered monster.

I am glad that the winner of this season’s Top Model will be in the cover of Vogue Italia! Finally, these girls get what the show advertises...which is a career in modeling! Or at least a pic on a famous mag. Ok, so later on the mentioned the winner will also be signed to IMG modeling agency, so good for them! Finally it only took 15 cycles...

I will never get over the fact that these girls are still surprised to see the Jays...AND Tyra, they scream like crazy hyenas, but now on to the things I appreciate about this new season, Tyra did not make an appearance on a time machine or a back to the future outfit or dressed as a Disney princess. She brought it back to basics and I absolutely positively appreciate that. The show was fun to watch already, there was no need for some of those stunts

I could already tell you I did not like Vanessa, she's was a pageant girl, not high fashion, but most importantly her attitude seemed higher than thou, not surprised she did not make it past the first elimination.

Thank you Tyra for sending Kayla to wash her hair, those curls were super tacky...but she was cute, you know, coming from poverty and all... and how hilariouse was the fact that she had no sense of direction, take a look at the clip...

Kayla

We met the “lovely” Kacey, who was one of the girls eliminated at the start of cycle 11. You would think that she has learned some modesty from that experience, but it seems she came with her nails sharp and ready for a fight, she already put some girls on the spot, totally uncalled for...but of course I love it! Meanwhile was it just me or did her reaction seem really fake when she made it past the second elimination?

Kacey

Oh God, and what was going on with the girl in the hat, I think her name was Rhianna, she was cute but I’m almost sure she time traveled from the 6o's where all they had in her country home was peace and love (and who knows maybe some ganja)...By the way they nicknamed her "Willow", enough said.

Rhianna

How about Esther, and her double G’s, she was hiding precious cargo underneath all those clothes! I actually really liked her, her look it’s very unique.

Liz, they mentioned she's on public assistance, can I just say, I want her to win already, she has a little daughter and lives in the ghetto, works 2 minimum wage jobs, attends school, I mean you go girl!

Liz

Let’s talk about Sara, the white rapper, listen girl we already have Kendra from “The Girl's Next Door” she’s already taken that spot!

Sara

Hmmmm how about the girl that hates semen, Kendal... first of all, if you have seen semen and know how it feels in your hands, I don't think she qualifies as being "pure", as she was described by Tyra, but I guess technically speaking it does, my bad. Also, Kendal...girl, you may not like boys, just sayin' (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Kendal

Let’s get to Ann, who has the smallest waist! She looks like she's about to break in half, no to put her down because she’s naturally skinny, but damn, she looks quite fragile, Tyra liked her awkwardness, but I think she may just stay awkward. Ann, was one of the "quirky" girls, in general Tyra always loves these girls and thinks they can all be made top models (or saved by her from eternal dowdiness), but I don't remember any of them ever winning, I gotta say though she does remind me of Shandi (Season 2) who I never thought would make it to the top and if I remember right, she was top three. Maybe I don't completely disagree with Tyra on this choice.

How about the sisters, I can’t figure one from the other, two it’s not always better than one...it may work against them, they are always going to be comparing them. Also, I think one of them was so excited to make it, she seem to have ‘the spirit” in her, I mean she was shaking up and down, left and right…she could not stop shaking!

I like Uma Thurman (Lexie), so I’m going to giver her lookalike a chance…

Lexie

It was nice the girls got to party while they did the photo shoot and also there was a guest designer on this very first episode, they have really stepped up their game, right on time too.

I liked Chelsey, she was older than most models there, she seems more mature, and she's got that "model" look I think.

Chelsey

I also noticed that since they have really upped all the prizes, Tyra and the J's seem very serious, she's talking to them in a very low, yet stern voice…it was really funny actually. I'm going to leave you with the starting credits for this season so you can see everyone who made it.

What's on Tonight?

I cannot wait to see what happens tonight on Project Runway, after last week's meltdown, I feel like the show finally started!

Lie to Me - Episode: Darkness And Light- 8/30/10

So first things first, Lightman and Gillian kissed! I know it was because they were "undercover" but finally! There’s been so much tension, at least from Lightman's side. Not that I would like to see them together, his character it’s not likeable at all...that said, at least this would bring some excitement to the show and I think for some reason it could work between the two of them.

I originally really liked the idea of this show, knowing what people say with their body language and facial expressions, but I'm not really sure how long I will continue to watch...they have to explain what the character’s expressions mean, and often times they do it as though the audience is not very smart, there's got to be a better way to tell us. Also, some episodes are ok, others are pretty bad. I think the show started realistic (as realistic as a man reading your face can be) and it has gone overboard. I know TV is TV and it's not going to be exactly "real life" but the show has gone to too far, I find it hard to believe most of the storylines and trust me, I am very flexible with my believable meter. I may actually continue watching if the show is in the summer since the options are limited.

Going back to this episode, I am so excited the daughter (forgot her name and she's not even listed on the show's site!) was so prominent in this episode, I really like her character and think she's a pretty good actress. The story on this episode was pretty light compared to some of the war episodes they had in the past, but it was pretty emotional. I had a hard time believing a daughter whose father it’s pretty much a nice guy will not even confront him before running away to work in porno, were things that bad? I mean come on, and how about when Gillian asked “your buried the memory” the girl knew right away what she was referring to? This is not something that everyone knows or maybe it’s just that I don’t know about it. Did she bury the memory? Or could it be that she was five and could not remember clearly.

The thing is, there's something missing, for some reason I fail to really connect with the characters, the stories, it all seems really contrived somehow. But I really like the end where father and daughter hugged. It reminded me of when you go through something that makes you think and appreciate those people around your life, who you love the most and hope nothing bad happens to them.

Oh wait, before I forget because I actually think I want to, what's up with the Ria and Loker kissing story line! Oh and whatever happened to her FBI boyfriend. I mean this came out of nowhere and I'm going to pretend it didn’t happen. It makes me feel the show does not know where it wants to go. Oh well…

Dancing with the Stars - NEW CAST REVEALED!!

I am brimming with anticipation at the new season of Dancing with the Stars! So the cast was revealed yesterday, and they are:

David Hasselhoff: I really hope he doesn't try to drink to relax...

Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino: People are either going to love him or hate him, I'm not that impressed with his six pack, am I the only one?

Bristol Palin: Ok, so this from the girl who claims that all her baby daddy wants it's the spotlight...good thing she doesn't...

Dirty Dancing, I mean Jennifer Grey: So I'm sooo excited to see her, maybe it's because I think it will take me back to those days when I was in love with Patrick Swayze and wanted to be baby really bad! I'm sure she's going to do well having been in this movie. Also, is it just me or every time you flip through the channels Dirty Dancing it’s playing on some station, it never fails, but I actually like that, have to stop and watch every time.

Michael Bolton: Not sure what I think of this one, I'm just grateful he's no longer sporting that strange hair that resembled a mop, imagine having to see that every week..phew! Also, it's hard to imagine a ballad singer you know, shaking their booty...

Brandy: I secretly love Brandy, I used to love all her songs when I was a teenager (so was she) I feel she deserves better and hopefully DWTS will do it for her, and you know they are probably going to dance a samba or something to "The Boy is Mine".

Kurt Warner: Who is this person? I apologize, but the only reason I'm into sports it's to ogle at cute guys, let's just say he's flying under my radar...But for just a moment can we go back to Ochocinco without his shirt...

Florence Henderson: I'm surprised she was not part of the show already, I feel like I see her everywhere! Also please do not stick poor Tony Dovolani with her, he deserves someone good after putting up with that Kate lady!

Rick Fox: Don't you love his name? I do think he's a fox and how much you wanna bet, he will be dancing with Edyta Sliwinska, she always gets the handsome guys.

Margaret Cho: Ok so I can't wait to root for her, I was surprised to hear she was part of the show, you know she's cool and funny, but I think she will really rock it. Go Cho!

Kyle Massey: Token young cast member...nothing else comes to mind but, oh wait can they bring "Raven" next year?

Audrina Patridge: I really don't care for this girl too much, not into The Hills, and she irks me a little bit, all I see are boobs when I look at her soooo who knows maybe when I see how she’s like on the show I can start to like her, but I have a feeling she will be another Kim Kardashian, which means she will be out within the first couple of weeks

I can’t wait for this new season, I don’t know, last season was so good it’s going to be hard for them to top it.

The Closer - War Zone - 8/30/10

First of all this is one of my favorite shows of the summer, then again, I have quite a few.  I love the main character for the most part, she can be selfish and lack some perspective, but I can see where she comes from. Justice is her goal and she will do anything in her reach to get it.  So the show started with the shooting of 3 American soldiers and it goes on to try and solve what happened.  The episode was very interesting and leaving aside the serious part of this storyline there were a few other things that captured my attention, like:

1. What happened to agent Gabriel's mustache?
2. Why was his ex-girlfriend chosen to leave the team, why not him?
3. I really miss having another female on the team, but I guess this is a realistic portrayal of male to female ratio in the police business, or at least I hope it is...or maybe:
     a) They did not want to have more than one female on the show
     b) Her character was underdeveloped therefore not needed on the show
     c) Can't think of another...

Anyway back to the episode, my favorite part was the Army Major's sexist remarks to Fritzy about his wife...that was pretty funny and clever.  Overall not my favorite episode but solid, kind of an unexpected but good ending.  This is my first post, i promise I will try to get better at this...
